The flathead is a - unsurprisingly, given the name, flat fish which usually rests in the sand. It can be quire challenging to photograph in the sand. The sand-dwelling animals are often exquisitely camouflaged, and flat - there is no color contrast, and it is difficult to achieve an out-of focus background. A few subtle shadows, like on the left side of the flathead, can help here. Normally I like to avoid shadows, but in the case of a flat, sand-colored, sand-textured fish in the sand they can add depth to the picture. Platycephalus arenarius, Ramsgate, Sydney, Australia.
