Many sea urchins devour what little remains of a piece of kelp. Judging by the thickness of the stipe, I'd guess this was Sea Palm or Bull Kelp. . . but I'm not sure. I was surprised to see any kelp at all, as this site was on the north side of the island and probably doesn't get enough sunlight to support the photosynthetic kelp.
