The United Caribbean ran aground off New York carrying illegal Chinese immigrants. Several drowned trying to swim to shore, which brought media attention and eventually resulted in the smugglers being brought to justice. The ship was renamed United Caribbean and used for cargo in the Caribbean, until her owner was unable to pay the crew and she was left abandoned in the Miami River. She was reclaimed by local authorities and sunk as an artificial reef in 73' of water. She was later broken up by a hurricane. Her bow now sits upright, with the stern a few hundred yards away lying on its side. There is usually little current, good visibility and some easy swim throughs. A good beginner wreck.
