Some of the 'famous' dive sites in the world fail to live up to their reputations when you get there to see them in person. This site is not one of them. You can watch all of the youtube videos you want but they will not prepare you for being in the middle of a seemingly endless school of barracuda.

Then, the bumphead parrotfish that seem like they are the size of small volkswagons will amaze you.

Best Time to Dive

You can dive Sipadan year round but the high season is from April to December with the peak conditions in July & August. The wet season is from January to March.

Getting There

The resorts on Sipadan have all been closed and now all that remains is a police and military installation. Therefore, diving Sipadan is done from the nearby islands of Mabul and Kapalai. There are also trips that leave from Semporna.

The number of divers allowed to dive Sipadan per day is limited (currently 120) so it is imperative that you book ahead and get your operator to secure your permits.

What You Can See

Barracuda. The most amazing school of barracuda you will likely see in your diving career. Bumphead Parrotfish, Whitetip Reef Sharks, more turtles than you will be able to count, and much more.
