Dos Ojos (meaning two eyes) is a flooded cave system, north of Tulum. The site is so named due to the appearance of its two large openings when this site was discovered from the air in November 1987. The pair create a very large cavern area which is great for scuba diving. Exploration of this system continues today. Currently 82km/51mi has been surveyed, and 28 sinkhole openings (cenotes) have been discovered. This site is well set up for visitors with toilets, changing facilities, snacks for sale and some basic snorkelling equipment for sale. It can be busy here, with over a hundred visitors daily. Arrive early to avoid crowds. |
