This site hosts the wreck of a German VIIC U-boat that was sunk by depth charges from the HMS Watchman after sinking the SS Cuba on 6 April 1945. Thirty two died on board including the boat's captain Ernst Cordes, and eighteen escaped. This U-boat is also believed to have sunk the James Eagan Lane.
The wreck is starting to deteriorate, but the basic structure and many features are still intact.
