There are seven experimental amphibious tanks here that sank in 1942 whilst practising for the D-Day landings in Normandy. They were fitted with canvas screens which could be raised or lowered pneumatically in order to float in the sea. The engines powered large propellers at the rear once the tanks were in the water. These tanks are fairly spread out, so it's recommended to have an accurate set of GPS readings, or go with someone who knows the area. Two of the tanks are linked together by a 100m/330ft rope. Best dived at slack tide. |
